ENERGY CANNOT BE CREATED V: some days if i could scream was performed by LSTwo Ensemble, in the Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall as part of the Leeds International Concert Series.
This piece is a bit different for me (so I thought when I was writing the piece): it’s very quiet but wants to be loud. A lot of my music (especially that written for LSTwo) is very loud. This piece is subtitled ‘some days if i could scream‘, and so I thought it fitting to be more quiet than what I normally write. But also there are loud moments in this, which I enjoyed in the performance. But it intentionally never gets loud enough (it could always get louder). It’s intentionally dissatisfying: it deliberately fails to fulfil its potential. I think LSTwo really brought this aspect out.
